Making Memories – Giving my time to my children.

When I sat down to write tonight, I had several ideas swimming in my head. I asked Chad what I should write about and he said, “You blog all the time, you should know what you want to write about. You have no problem putting it all out there.” That, of course, made me think that much harder about what I should post tonight. And? Here you have it … Making Memories.

No matter what you’ve done for yourself or for humanity, if you can’t look back on having given love and attention to your own family, what have you really accomplished?
— Elbert Hubbard

Since I was a little girl, I have fought my inner slob. I have spent a great deal of my life letting the inner slob take over, but as I’ve grown older, had more kids, moved into a smaller house, etc. I have taken my inner slob by the horns and reigned her in. I have taken control of her for the most part and would only occasionally be totally humiliated if someone dropped in to visit.

Now that my inner slob has been reigned under control, I suffer from a different problem. There are times that I am overwhelmed by the number of Little People, plastic hot dogs, and pieces of cardboard that are in the floor (I had no idea that one house could have so many Little People or so much cardboard!) At that point, I push family time aside to regain control of the chaos and my sanity. I refuse, however, to let a little (mountain of) cardboard or a few (dozen) Little People take away the quality time I spend with my children. When it is all said and done, who cares if someone comes over to find the mess my children have made, so long as my children find happiness in that chaos, right?

Spending time with my girls is usually something somewhat normal. We read books, they will lay in my lap under the blanket watching an early morning episode of Punky Brewster, or help me make cookies. Spending time with Gmail, however, is a bit more … interesting? (Haha) Gmail, as you already know, loves High School Musical and Soccer. So, I often find myself being part of one of these two activities. (You can read about my soccer lesson here.)  It’s fun and he enjoys it, even if he does get frustrated and let out a howl every so often, they are the spice of the day (sure, we’ll call it that).

I remembered this video yesterday and swore I’d never, ever (did I say NEVER, EVER?) I meant, I would NEVER, EVER, EVER share it with the world. I had originally intended to submit it to a project that someone else was doing on his blog, but with the spice of the day at the end, I decided not to. However, with Chad’s blessing (or maybe sarcasm 😉 ) I have decided, what the heck. What’s life about if I can’t share an embarrassing moment or two? First I didn’t know what the heck a ‘stutter step’ was … and now, this…

  1. hey…I recognize that shirt! I'm proud of you for being an active mom with your kids and showing them that you are interested in what they are interested in. Kudos to you Lena! I LOVE YOU 🙂

  2. Do you? It's a maternity shirt I've been wearing since I was pg with Pouty. I wear it all the time now, I love it, although it's totally worn out. 🙁 You should recognize the jeans, too. 🙂 LOL Thanks, I LOVE YOU TOO!! 🙂
